As Curator of the Experimental Program at the Forest City Film Festival for two years, I revitalized a struggling program that faced low attendance, weak venue alignment, and financial losses. With the program at risk of cancellation, I established a strategic partnership with Museum London, repositioning the series within the visual arts community and increasing both visibility and credibility. I also redefined the program’s direction, centering it around emerging local artists—many from newcomer and diaspora communities—under the theme “Artistic Voices – Perspectives in Film and Art.”
Alongside this curatorial shift, I led targeted outreach to museums, galleries, and diaspora communities, giving marketing efforts a clear and focused direction. The result was a transformation from a poorly attended, net-loss event into a sell-out program with positive returns. The revitalized series featured Indigenous works, premieres, and live Q&As, and directly supported participating filmmakers, with at least two artists reporting new professional opportunities stemming from the program.
